About

Helen

I’m a 50+ divorcee, living in west Manchester, and I’ve been crocheting since 2016. I’m drawn to bright colours and funky (aka weird) designs, although I do love a crochet-along.

My love of yarn began around 1981 when my mum taught me to knit. I have fond memories of us sitting in front of the TV with our projects, nattering about our days – memories I cling to more as Alzheimer’s takes hers away.

In 2016, I opened a yarn shop. It did not do well and I learned the importance of market research! During one of the knit-n-natter groups I ran, someone mentioned wanting to learn crochet, but it wasn’t a skill I could share. So I grabbed two issues of Knitting & Crochet magazine, one open at a pattern and the other at the how-to guide, and I taught myself.

Almost 10 years later, I’m completely obsessed with the craft. I have ADHD and anxiety, and find crocheting so soothing. It’s also wonderfully creative and I’ve made blankets, bags, shrugs, hats, several toys, and I even wrote a pattern!

Two Crochets Crochet

I’m a D&D player. I came into the game via actor Todd Stashwick who runs a star-studded charity campaign every year. These features two NPCs (non-playable characters eg Nigel from the 2017 version of Jumanji) that are, you guessed it, crows. Their names are Christopher and Rosencrantz for reasons I’m not sure of and am afraid to ask about.

Anyway, Todd has been instrumental in a lot of things in my life, so when I was brainstorming possible brand names, I chose to honour him and his crows. Plus, two crows signify joy according to the poem, and what brings me more joy than crochet?!
